The following is from success in 10 steps by Michael Dlouhy, a wonderful portion saying the harder you work at those relationships the luckier you get. Yes at times creating those relationships is a hard job, others are a breeze. When you do find those people who you can talk to and create a relationship with it is wonderful. You need to develop know, like and trust with people and then they will do anything for you.

To be lucky, just put out thin lines and thick lines … to peo- ple here, there and everywhere.
Doesn’t this make perfect sense? The more contacts you have, the more likely you’ll be in the right place at the right time. In other words, when one of your contacts runs into a huge opportunity that would be perfect for you, chances are good they’ll call YOU.
But if you never make that contact, you’ll never hear about the opportunity.
And if you don’t make spider webbing a systematic lifetime habit, chances are you’ll be one of those people who suffers a lifetime of bad luck.
So build your web continuously, and you greatly increase your chance of being in the path when good things happen.
There’s an old saying, “The harder I work, the luckier I get.” It’s true. Especially if you work at building relationships.

When you remove the agenda and just get to know people it really helps. Yes there are times when relationships are hard to build owing to being scared or otherwise it often takes persistence and being willing to do such until. Michael even talks about those life long friends who will do anything for you even though they may be doing something completely different from what you are doing.
