Do You Understand What REALLY Motivates You?

I've seen it again and again with people in network marketing:

You will quit if you don't know your "WHY."

When you come on a stumbling block, maybe it's a negative in-law or something, and you have a 71% WHY, but you hit a 72% impediment, you're done. You are toast.

But when you have a "kick-butt" WHY out in front of you, you will never, never quit.

A new business is always a risk. People risk to avoid pain, or to achieve pleasure. Answering these questions may help you find your "WHY".

* What gets you REALLY excited?
* How many hours a week do you work?
* What do you LOVE about your job?
* What do you HATE about your job?
* What do you do with your free time?
* If you had 2 months vacation and all the money you wanted, what would you do?
* How do you like the people you work with?
* What problem scares you to death that more money could solve?
* What do you just absolutely HATE about your life that more money could solve?
* If you had all the money you needed, what HUGE problem would go away?
* If you had all the TIME in the world to do anything you wanted, what would you do?
* Other than money, what are you looking for?

Here's a starting point.

The #1 reason I am in this business, that I'm here on this planet, is because I LOVE my family.

I want to spend more quality time with each of them. People say, "Michael, that's nuts. You work full-time in network marketing, you work at home. You're already right there."

Yes. BUT - I treat business as business. When I'm in the office, I'm in the office. Same as if my office was 20 miles away.

But that lets me have that time I cherish with my wife Linda, my son Matthew, and my daughter Amanda.

I realize that many husbands and fathers rarely or never get the chance to do the things they want with their families because of the demands on their time from simply earning a living. Or, they don't have the money.

For me, the rewards of MLM have allowed me to build the relationships I cherish.

Linda & I talk a LOT. It may be serious business conversation when we're out to dinner, or simple, crazy, "laugh-to-tears" talks late at night. We love to drive on the beach at Daytona, or go snorkeling at Looe Key.

Matthew & I ride motorcycles & go scuba diving. We talk about business & computers, engines & race cars. Sometimes he even wants advice!

Amanda has a T Top Camero with a "scoop" on the hood. I taught her how to change her oil & service it. We have long talks in the boat out on the water or after watching a movie together. I love to hug her at the end of the day.

Life is good when you get to do the things that make life really worthwhile.

Attitude Makes a Difference by Tom Hopkins

The following is as appeared in Jim Rohns newsletter by tom hopkins

Studies have proven that attitude is one of the traits that separate average salespeople from their highly-successful colleagues. I have to believe that it’s true in life in general, not just sales. Think about the happiest, most successful people you know. How do you usually find them? Are they depressed, negative or even apathetic? I doubt it. They’re probably upbeat, smiling and positive about life.

Why not take the same positive interested attitude you have toward your hobbies and transfer your passion to your ability to sell yourself, your ideas, or the end results of your hobby?

Instead of turning your selling job into a hobby, why not take the hobby you love so much and figure out how to market it or yourself? I’m not saying this change will make you a millionaire, but money isn’t the only measure of success. If you could support yourself comfortably on the earnings from your hobby, I would deem you as having a successful life.

Think about it! You already have the built-in enthusiasm, excitement and knowledge of your hobby. Now all you need to do is show others why they need to feel the same way. If you do a little research, you’ll find that many successful businesspeople started out by selling their hobbies. Determine what you love to do, and then figure out a way to get paid for it. What could be better?

The Key to Making Life Unique and Worthwhile by Jim Rohn

The following is from Jim Rohns Newsletter

The key to making life really unique and worthwhile is to share. Sharing has a certain unique magic of its own. Here’s what I learned in sharing ideas.

If you share an idea with ten different people, they get to hear it once, and you get to hear it ten times. So here’s part of self-interest for yourself, getting you even better prepared for the future. Share ideas. Share with your family, share with the people around you, share with other employees, share with your colleagues.

Because, by sharing, two things happen. Here’s what we call it. I don’t know how to explain it, but I do know it happens. And I don’t know all about how it happens or why it happens, it just happens.

When one person shares with another, two things happen. The audience could be transformed, and so could the speaker. If you share with someone else, they could be transformed. You may have dropped in at the right time. This may be their moment.

They’ve got three numbers dialed into the lock already, and if you say it well and say it right you’ll be the fourth number that they can dial into the lock of their personal experience and the door will come open and there’s opportunity they never saw before. The person who hears could be transformed.

But here’s what else is exciting. The person who speaks could be transformed. Guess what we’re all looking for… transformation for our new life. The new life tomorrow, the new life this month, the new life next year, the new life this year.

The caterpillar one day says, “I think I was made for more than this crawling on the ground.” So the caterpillar climbs the tree, attaches himself to a leaf and spins the cocoon. Who knows what disciplined effort it takes to spin a cocoon. But something inside the caterpillar says, “I was designed for something more than being just a caterpillar.”

And then when the cocoon is ready and it opens up, out comes a butterfly that flies away, maybe singing, “I believe I can fly! I believe I can touch the sky! I used to be a caterpillar on the ground, now I fly.”

I’m asking you to go through such a metamorphosis. I’m asking you often to go through a period where you say, “New skills, new things are waiting for me,” and part of this will come if you’ll translate for other people what you feel in your heart and in your soul. As awkward as your language might be at first, don’t hesitate to do it.

Here’s what sharing does… makes room for more. Key question: If the glass is full of water, can it hold any more? And the answer is yes. Yes, if you pour some out. So jot that down. If you want more, you’ve got to pour out what you’ve got, and then you have the opportunity to receive more.

Now, unlike the glass that remains the same size when you pour some out, it’s not so in the consciousness of human beings. Your capacity will increase the more you share. You’ll get bigger and bigger and bigger.

Now, why the self-interest wish to be bigger? Here’s why: to hold more of the next experience. Some people can’t hold much happiness because they’re too small, their thinking is too small, their activity is too small, they’re too small in their ability to share, they’re just too small. Can’t hold much. They’re too small.

But the bigger you get, the more you will receive. When happiness is poured out, you’ll get more. When joy is poured out on the nation, you’ll get more. When bounty is poured out from the economy, you will get more, if you share what you’ve got and become bigger and bigger and bigger.

Vitamins for the Mind by Jim Rohn – Communication/Persuasion

The following is as appeared in Jim Rohns newsletter on communcation
Vitamins for the Mind by Jim Rohn

Communication/Persuasion

Better understated than overstated. Let people be surprised that it was more than you promised and easier than you said.

For effective communication, use brevity. Jesus said, "Follow me." Now that's brief! He could be brief because of all that he was that he didn't have to say.

You cannot speak that which you do not know. You cannot share that which you do not feel. You cannot translate that which you do not have. And you cannot give that which you do not possess. To give it and to share it, and for it to be effective, you first need to have it. Good communication starts with good preparation.

The goal of effective communication should be for listeners to say, "Me, too!" verses "So what?"

Learn to express, not impress.

Effective communication is 20% what you know and 80% how you feel about what you know.

“Vitamins for the Mind” is a weekly sampling of original quotes on a specific topic taken from The Treasury of Quotes by Jim Rohn. The burgundy hardbound book with gold-foil lettering is a collection of more than 365 quotes on 60 topics gathered from Jim’s personal journals, seminars and books and spanning more than 40 years.
