- never store the layout with someone who really doesn’t care – a layout of mine was lost in a storm as it was stored with family. Told it would be replaced by them but never happened. They will never take the same care and love you have for that layout.
- its your layout not the peanut galleries. Everyone is going to have their own opinion on what they believe your layout should be.
- You will hear every excuse under the sun to not build the layout dream. They will tell you the layout is too big. You are too old to start at your age. Learn it’s their limitations not Yours.
- Believe it can be built. You will always hear from the naysayers who will give their opinions and views. Stop letting their limits run Your life.
- Learn from those who have built a layout similar to yours. If it’s huge talk with someone who has built that rather than someone who has built small.
- Give a test to see if someone supports the project. The test can be a simple question.
- Learn the skills needed – online or similar. There is a great database and academy called model railway academy which can be a wonderful resource.
- What gauge do you use or want to use.
- Is it dc or dcc layout – how complex, sound,
- Where is layout – scenic, what features does it have.
