From Figments to Reality
Although the title and topic of our discussion this week is that "Thoughts are Things", we were also immediately asked to consider desire, being definite, having purpose, being persistent, even bordering upon obsession.
Every chapter of this book lays out pieces of all of the secrets. Some chapters only focus on a few, or even try to focus on a single one, but every single chapter is woven with the strong fabric of knowledge. The knowledge that we are the most powerful creatures on this planet. The knowledge that our power can be positive or negative. The knowledge that when we combine the power of all of the positive, the total is far greater than the simple sum of the parts.
I have been thinking heavily, lately, of the progress I've made and also where I haven't made any progress.
I have been in similar states like this before. Finding myself on a road with a fork in it. Do I stay on the path I've been on? Do I continue much as I have so far? Or, do I take this turn?
Once I decide, I know there are few if any roads back, and those are more difficult to travel, or worse yet, in a reverse direction back to that same fork.
I know that it won't always be clear that I've made the correct choice along the way. There will be desire-threatening obstacles. But I have made these decisions before. I haven't always executed them perfectly. I even had to settle for good enough (very challenging for my personality). But I also know there will be an almost unconscious blur that can occur in the knowing it works, when it's working.
To be in an excited state of not being able to go to sleep at night.
To anticipate the dawn of the new day and awake, even before the alarm goes off, jumping out of bed to advance our cause.
It is all found in this book. And the journey begins within our own minds. It begins with our thoughts. Thoughts become all manner of things.

Chapter 1-Thoughts are Things
Mr. Hill is impressing on us in this First Chapter that whatever we think can be useful or destructive depending on whether we think positive or negative, success or failure, or wealth or poverty.. We have control over our thoughts but we must be mindful of what we think. To do that we must realize that whatever we think goes to the sub-conscious and it doesn't make any judgment as to whether it is positive or negative. Our mind is what judges our thoughts.
Thoughts can be powerful if we have a definiteness of purpose, persistence and a burning desire. These three principles definiteness of purpose, persistence, and a burning desire are in the right direction when we are not negative, in poverty, or a failure. Our mind must take control.
In our travels through life there are factors in our environment, that we have to recognize as the opposite of what we want. If we have control over our thoughts we can make a negative into a positive, a failure into a success, and poverty into wealth. Sometimes we encounter an environment that seems to be positive at first but then as we get acquainted with it it is not.
When we are aware of these negative principles we need to know that it is possible to turn them around. What is required as Mr Hill says is to magnetize our minds with an intense desire to acquire riches or to attain a goal. When we do this with a definiteness of purpose, persistence and a burning desire in the right direction we will attain our goals and become success conscious.

I'm a pretty good quitter. At least in this industry. Heck, I've even started and quit this Mental Cleanse a number of times. It's starting to tick me off.
I know I have it in me to not quit. I have 9 books that I wrote to prove it. So why have I not been able to convert that same "desire" into my business? Again, it's starting to tick me off.
As I read this chapter I grabbed onto the promise that "you can regain all that you lost through defeat."
But the thing that stood out is the statement: When one is truly ready for a thing, it puts in its appearance. Edwin Barnes had a definite major purpose. It started out when he was "in no poisition to act upon it." But he did act on it. He thought outside the box, I suppose.
The chapter goes on to say that "Barnes was ready for a business association with Edison; moreover, he was determined to remain ready until he got that which he was seeking.
So it's not a matter of just getting ready, it's a matter of staying ready. Apparently I have done neither all that well. But I'm still standing so the only choices I have are to give up on this cool dream called MLM or to move forward.
GET ready. STAY ready. I have a hunch that this exercise called the Mental Cleanse is one of the ways to do that.
So I'll start again. With as much determination as I can muster. And dag gum it, let's see if I can make it all the way through Chapter 15.

Chapter 1
Thoughts Are Things
This Chapter is truly revealing to me the second time around. Thoughts mixed with a belief of them becoming real, pursuing them with: a definite plan with persistence, a burning desire, and taking action every day; will cause the thought to become real.
Thoughts can either feed our desires to achieve a set goal or rob us as excuses, as negative thoughts that keep us in the same or even a worse state of mind.
After the chapter on the 6 ghosts of fear I realized that to overcome all the ghosts, I must take full control of my state of mind, my self-talk, and to stretch out of my comfort zone of my present mindset.
I am fueling this by:
Belief in Riches (spiritual, financial, personal growth)
Belief in Action (knowing by taking action things will happen in my favor)
Belief in Good Health ( since 1988 – present day I have allowed my mindset to be one of allowing others thoughts and negative influence to determine my health. That stops august 24, 2012. Details forthcoming.)
Belief in Teamwork ( I've always been a fixer till I let others tell me I could not, that was before Mentoring For Free and the 30 Day Mental Cleanse program. This new team believed in me until I could return to believing in myself.)
These beliefs helped me to counter both my age barrier and disability barrier. Also it helped me to go from thinking that all I could do is exist, not really live life as I am now. It is a nice change to live life to the fullest and to no longer allow the thought of death to slow me down any longer.
OK Friday has come, today starts my new life. I've decided to help others to overcome obstacles – I must overcome mine.
Time for my thoughts to declare to my mind we are accomplishing this task no matter how many rest breaks it takes.
Long story made short, since my 6 months long illness from 10-2010 thru 4-2011 I had to choose to come back from a level 2 quality of life with a level 8 pain several hours a day. It took until 12-2011 to get my recovery energy back. I have been doing short trips to stores then having to sit down and rest up to this point.
Today I decided no matter how many rest stops, I was walking a mile before I was finished. It was a little uphill and then the ground became level. I DID IT! My belief level increased. Then the next day, it was time for some more stretching. I thought that it was a mile just very different terrain of hills and valleys. I told Janet I was doing it no matter how long it took and how many rest breaks we needed. We did it together both times, it was a struggle with a heart racing and my mind telling me no way you can't do this! It took a while but we did it! We went back and measured it and it was 1 ½ miles. WOW!
Now I will cut back to a shorter range and build up. But now I know I can do it. That means everything.
Thank you MFF team, its though all your help and your stories that we've been able to turn our negative to positive.

Boy they sure are!
I have noticed this last time around as I battle the weight loss that my thoughts have a different feeling than they did.
Before I said the right words, I said I could do it, I would lose 10 lbs, 15 lbs, or what ever number popped into my mind but I didn't believe it, but I kept saying it and kept THINKING it would never work. Finally I was driving down the road, again, and crying, again because I didn't know why it was so hard for me to do it and called a friend for help. I made it a regular thing to go to my friend ( she is a nutritionist) and get educated about food, and even agreed to see her husband, another friend and counselor about me and my relationship with food, actually my relationship with me that made me use food the way I have been. I learned, am learning to get rid of the sadness by looking at it and allow the anger that followed, and to get rid of the anger I have a plan and I am carrying it out. I do the shake every morning... the cookie is usually too much and pay attention to the rest of my day, and I am losing weight! I don't think to my self why can't I, I think to myself this time I am doing it! And I am. I Feel this time it is working and I am not quitting until I have done it. There is a knowing behind the self talk. I don't push the negative thoughts away, I look at them and dismiss them.
So it isn't just saying the self talk, it is thinking the self talk, feeling it as it has already happened and maybe more important DOING the self talk. If you say it but don't take action nothing happens, and you think the negative, so that is what you get. I took action, as much as it scared me, I took a headlong dive into finding out why I wanted to keep the weight, so I could face it and take action to change it, and now I KNOW I will succeed.
Now I am doing the same with the business. I am taking action, and not making excuses. I am doing the parties even though I still feel the resistance, because I know I that once I take action to match my self talk, positive things will happen. The feeling behind the words will change, and my thoughts behind the words will change and I will get results. My thoughts are things, and for the best results they need to match what I say and what I do. I won't be afraid of success because I have a plan and understand the fear. That critical parent that tells me if I try I will fail is wrong. I am not afraid to prove them right, because they are wrong.
PS. As I read this over, I noticed I was still saying I would and I will, changed it to I am... present tense!
PSS Just in case... Don't think I can read this but if you want to use you you are welcome to have someone else read it instead. Maybe it can give someone else some courage and to know they are not alone in how they feel and that they can change it.
