CHAPTER 9
PERSISTENCE
THE SUSTAINED EFFORT NECESSARY TO INDUCE FAITH
The Eighth Step toward Riches
Persistence is required if we are to be successful in achieving our goals.
There are only 4 simple steps that will take anyone to the habit of persistence.
They don’t need a great amount of intelligence, do not need one or more letters after our name and will take us all little time or effort.
Firstly, we must have a definite goal or purpose which is backed by a burning white-hot desire for it to be completed.
Secondly, we must have a definite plan which we must execute continuously daily, weekly, monthly and yearly.
Thirdly, we must always and I mean always keep our mind completely closed from all negative discouraging influences from our family relatives, friends and acquaintances.
And finally, we should form a friendly alliance with one or more persons who will encourage us to follow through both our plan and our purpose.
So let me apply these four habits of persistence to a mini goal that has been highlighted by my Network Marketing company.
Actually there are two mini goals which my company has challenged me with and they are:
(1)   To reach the status of Diamond Executive before December 1st so that I could receive a bonus of $10,000, and,
(2)   To sponsor 10 people before December 1st so as to be featured in a magazine.
Even though these are not lifelong goals, they are indeed mini goals or purposes to help me move forward on my lifetime journey.
When looking at these 2 purposes, by achieving the 2nd goal of sponsoring 10 people, will just about guarantee me reaching the first goal of reaching the Diamond status.
So what is my plan that will help me to achieve these two goals. My mentor Michael has said that I must go out and find customers and some of these customers will want to become distributors also.
We have one of the biggest shopping centers in the world here in the suburbs of Chicago called the “Woodfield Mall”. My plan is to go to this mall and speak to 10 people daily between 3pm and 5pm by using my marketing cards as my lead in.
I will also stay close to the fire which I have been doing diligently by being on each and every Mentoring for Free call.
Continuous calling of all my e-Book downloads who have shown that they are definitely coachable will be done more daily.
Pointing my present students to where training can be had on how to get e-Book downloads.
Staying away from people who are negative and want to bring me down to their rat hole must be exercised.
And finally, making an alliance with like-minded people who have the same dreams that I have which is my Network Marketing team.
We Love to all the members of this awesome Mastermind Group and thanks to all the mentors who help us daily keep with our persistence to become stars in this beautiful Network Marketing industry.
Special thanks go out to Michael and Linda for always believing in every one of us.

Chapter 9—Persistence
I was twelve years old when I started taking piano lessons.  The previous summer I had begged my friend, Shelley, to teach me what she learned in her piano lessons. By the time I took my first formal lesson in the beginning of 7th Grade, I was able to skip the entire first level and go right to the second.
I loved piano lessons.
Each week I would go for my thirty-minutes with Mrs. Stephens, my piano teacher.  I would play through the songs she had assigned the previous week.  Based on my performance, she gave me colored stars and when I played especially well, I was able to choose a sticker. Sounds a little silly perhaps, but I was really motivated by those rewards.
After a while the piano pieces became increasingly difficult.  Learning the scales was painstaking; they took more work to perfect.  I remember pounding the piano keys and storming off to my bedroom.  I felt like quitting. My overwhelming frustration caused me to be not-so-nice to the others in my family.  I would never be able to learn that "stupid song!"
Within a couple days of consistent practice, the piano piece became easier to play.  By the end of the week, my fingers moved over the keys easily.  I was able to add phrasing and appropriate dynamics, bringing the piece to life.   Sometimes it would take more than one week to “polish” it.  But eventually, my efforts paid off and I experienced an intrinsic reward more valuable than stars and stickers.
Over the years I’ve come to recognize that right before I have “BREAKTHROUGH,” I tend to experience great frustration.  I tend to compare myself with others who are farther down the road of success.  The frustration rises within me to such a degree my perspective is completely skewed.
It’s not a place I like to be.  It’s murky and lonely. Not as dark as a slimy pit, such as clinical depression, but definitely a place where the negative emotions surge.
The Psalmist says, “Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me?  Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God.”  (Psalm 42:5)
I’ve been in such a place the past few weeks.  I didn’t want to do Self-Talk.  I didn’t want to take real Action.  In recent months I have found Customers, but haven't found Distributors.  Others in my company are signing up new Distributors and achieving the levels I desire. I was overwhelmed not only with a sense of frustration, but admittedly, jealously (that Green-Eyed Monster!) and shame (What's wrong with me?") Yes, those nasty negative emotions had moved into my mind with their suitcases packed.
I felt like a failure…once again.
But wait!  I’ve felt this feeling before…right before Breakthrough.  Is it possible that what I’m experiencing is simply the frustration that comes right before the piano piece becomes easy to play? Right before the notes of a scale in C# (C-sharp) become comfortable to maneuver?
By my senior year in high school, I was a fairly accomplished pianist. Even now I still love sitting down at my piano and playing through the familiar pieces. My fingers have never forgotten how to play through some of those complicated measures.  Those hours of practice are still paying off today.
I didn’t allow Frustration to totally derail me from learning Music; and I will not allow Frustration to derail me from pursuing my goal of Network Marketing Success.
I choose to believe instead that I’m on the edge of BREAKTHROUGH.
Thank you to Michael & Linda and this Mastermind Group... I appreciate each of you!

Chapter 9 – Persistence
I would like to share with you how I persisted to
move my business forward today.
I drove to the Pentiction which is a town  about 10 miles from where
I live and on the drive I said my self talk which I borrowed from the
self talke Michael shared with us yesterday.
So all the way as I drove to Pentiction I said:  I am attracting people
who are interested in getting "filled in the name of my Product".
Hills tells us that persistence is based on definite causes, some are these:
a.   Definiteness of purpose.  My purpose was to go out and
hand out my business cards, which is actually a product card find some
new customers and partners.
b.   Desire:  My desire was to gain some contacts, drum up new business
and get myself known.
c.   Self-reliance.  I knew in my heart I could do it.
d.   Definiteness of Plans.  My plan was to go to town and go to every
business and introduce myself and my product.
e.   Accurate knowledge.   I knew my product, I had viewed how others
had promoted it and I just needed to make it mine and take ownership.
f.   Co-operation.  I would introduce myself and tell my prospective customer
what I was there for and I had their co-operation to tell them about it.
g.   Will-power.  I knew I could do it, I knew it would work and I just had to
put in the action.
h.   Habit.  I created the habit from going to each business and talking to
the person there and doing it over and over again.
What did I learn?
1.   Do not accept their initial reaction.  Some thought they knew what the
product was but I would explain what it did for me and they
were then interested in knowing how it would help them.
2.   Be prepared for some surprises.  Mine were all positive.
3.   I figured out how to make it work for me.  I claimed it and made it mine.
I did not procrastinate I just went out there and did it and it turned
out to be a lot of fun.  I met some wonderful people, handed out
87 cards, sold some product, and created for the future some
prospective customers and a prospective partner for the future.
It was a very successful day.

David H Paul

David H. Paul- St. Cloud, MN USA

This week we are going to talk about a topic that many people want to avoid, persistence. Persistence requires consistent, daily effort and action. Can the actions be effortless? Sure they can be, as long as we have done the previous 8 steps (chapters) in "Think and Grow Rich".
Michael share the $100,000 Success Formula with us on the Monday Leaders Skills call, and it fit right in with exact what I need to be persistent in doing right now. Here are the 5 Skill Sets that Michael laid out:
1. The number of people we talk to per day.
Not the number of people we email, text message, or Skype with, the mumber of people we actually have a direct voice conversation with, either via telephone or Skype call. (This has been a major week spot for me, and has help me back from growing my business.)
2. The Quality of the people we are talking to
Most of the people who download "Success in 10 Steps" are people who already believe in network marketing and Want Desparately to have success. Pretty good quality of people to talk to. To really push in over the edge, I asked myself "Am I the kind of person who attracts the leaders in network marketing?
3. How much do People Like Me?
Most people either can't stand me, or they are really impressed with my enthusiasm and consistent, truthful message. One thing I have definitely learn from 30 Day Mental Cleanse is that I have become the person that people want to join. (which we cover in more detail in #5)
4. You Skill and Knowledge Level
From what I have learned in Mentoring for Free, there are three major skill bases that I must master in order to become the leader I want to become in network marketing: 1) A working knowledge of my company and products (even a belief in them) 2) A personal development program that teaches me How To Think not What To Think, and 3) the skill of being able to communicate effectively with any personality (we call that the Colors to Success in MFF).
5. You Success Thermostat
How much do I Believe that I Can Have the Success that I want. Can I look myself in the mirror and say, "I Love You"? Those skills, the skills of persistent Self-Development, are what we develop when we fully participate in 30 Day Mental Cleanse.
When we honestly look at these 5 Skills Sets, if any of them are coming up a 0 (goose egg), then That is the area to Focus on with absolute persistence. In order to get that kind of focused persistence it is probably going to be necessary to face some F.E.A.R. (False Evidence Appearing Real). Please, do yourself and you family a favor an ask for help with those fears. At Mentoring for Free, we have a well honed persistence in helping network marketers overcome fear.
To Your Peace and Prosperity,
