“I’ll believe it when I see it !”
That’s what we say all the time.
But What we are saying here is –
Believe it and you will See it !
We are not just saying, believe it and you will have it.
We are saying, Believe it and go and get it !
You have to put something into it.
Why
What
When
How
Write it down
Read it Regularly
Why are you doing this? What exactly do you want out of it? When?
How are you going to get it, what are you going to put into it, what’s your plan?
I heard a good one. One University student quote documented unquote his paper with such footnotes as, “my barber said” and “I heard this from the elevator lady” and “I overheard the waiter at the restaurant talking to someone at the next table”. When the professor drew his attention to this substandard practice he said, “well, I am so glad that you noticed. What is the big deal with having these expert documented statements in my paper, whatever is wrong with the everyday things that you hear?”
The professor hesitated and then said he would go ahead and submit the paper as it was to the review committee.
A while later they contacted the student and told him they had decided to award him his PHD on the strength of the paper.
He was very pleased.
Then they added, “we are Not going to give you a piece of paper, you’ll just have to take our word for it.”
Document it. Write it all down.
Read it over and over and over . . .
