A sixth sense, a portion of our subconscious mind, our "Creative Imagination", "a receiving set for ideas, plans and thoughts" are all phrases that Napoleon Hill uses to describe this week's topic. Intuition, gut feeling, instinct, knowing that we know, if you know what I mean are also phrases that could be used.
Mental and spiritual ... Miracles ... Aha, eureka or epiphany moments ... these are the results we achieve or are achieved on our behalf.
Once we can relate to what it is, how do we endeavor to use it? The steps have been clearly outlined during our journey through the preceding chapters. We can then receive "without efforts or demands."
A virtual mastermind group is a solution that Napoleon Hill describes, perhaps to embarrassing detail (to himself), through much of the latter part of the chapter. Even this seems to have worked, for a time, then it didn't work so well, or he lost faith in it. It was then abandoned, only to return again in urnest but in a further evolved and more insistent form. The focal characters were always shifting and changing over time. A student of the characters he was able to leverage their gifts for his behalf.
Is this a form your Creative Imagination is suggesting you should use? If so, who are your Counselors? Are they your heroes? Are they real or fictitious? So often I have found myself focused upon someone who themselves are a creation of someone else's imagination. How do I stay focused in reality, yet avail myself of this enormously powerful ability? Growing up I admired Sherlock Holmes as a role model. I've even tried to focus on real people, but most that I look to, when scrutinized expose their flaws. We all have these. That's why we need so many on our committee. We have to be able to balance the positives and stay focused on our true desires as they further unfold. We are multifaceted diamonds, but still in-the-rough on many edges. We may believe we understand what our true desires are, but, as we grow, we learn that these too evolve into even greater places.
Of all of the characters who are on my committee, those who remain silent, in the dark recesses towards the back, step forward into the foreground, in the bright light to be heard again when the time is right. I call them characters, because, although they do start off as real as possible people, they always seem to become a little glamorized. I've found they tend to be flawless in their special attribute(s) and have managed to completely reduce any negative side effects to nearly imperceptible. But that, after all, is what we are really trying to do with ourselves, isn't it?
With all of the media that bombards us daily it is extremely difficult to stay focused in real role models. It has to be worked at. We have to eliminate those who let the distracting creep in, while we have to also work to surround ourselves as much as possible with those who are focused and taking action. We can meet with them on the phone, in person, or, by other means. Perhaps we can even arrange to sit down and have a meal with them, or travel and visit or even vacation with them. Even brief encounters can plant the seeds for a successful addition to the mastermind.
I could write volumes about my counselors. My dad, who passed away in 1989, is still a major and active participant in my committee. The epitome of self-sacrifice, he never wavers in his dedication to actively performing to be of benefit to all those around him. My wife, who has found and uses the secret of service to others as the means in indirectly achieving her own desires. Even my children, who have grown into critical thinking adults. They too provide me with constant council using the evolved fusion of the experiences they've had and are still having on their journeys, but from new perspectives. Many teachers as well as historical figures also play roles. I constantly read to explore for others who may have learned just one more special ingredient to be added to the recipe.
If you are not inspired to utilize Hill's process of a virtual mastermind what do you do? How vivid can this process become? Can you see images of places, people and things, much like a dream, but remaining fully conscious? Is it day dreaming? Such an intense state of deep focus of vibration and thought could be considered meditation. Yet it all seems to occur in an instant. And complex challenges are dealt with over many of these sessions over, possibly, a great deal of time.
The sum total of all that we have explored so far, this is certainly the master key with which to unlock all doors.
with gratitude and in service,

CHAPTER 14
THE SIXTH SENSE
THE DOOR TO THE TEMPLE OF WISDOM
The Thirteenth Step toward Riches
Hill states that he does not believe in Miracles, yet he clearly believes in the Sixth Sense and clearly used it in his work to produce ‘Think and Grow Rich’. The Sixth Sense is the connection between man’s finite mind and infinite intelligence, it is situated within the subconscious mind and also acts as the receiving set for communications from the Ether, i.e. ‘hunches’ or ‘inspirations.
It is only understood fully once the other twelve principles are clearly understood and applied in their respective places to the whole. The Sixth Sense is therefore the Apex of the whole Philosophy. The understanding of the Sixth Sense is brought about by meditation and use. It is a mixture of mental and spiritual stimulation.
Hill states that the following:
‘Through the aid of the sixth sense, you will be warned of impending dangers in time to avoid them, and notified of opportunities in time to embrace them.
There comes to your aid, and to do your bidding, with the development of the sixth sense, a “guardian angel” who will open to you at all times the door to the Temple of Wisdom’.
Full acceptance of this statement will only come with the application of the other twelve principles.
I have experienced both the warning of impending danger and also the notification of opportunities when considering job changes. The solution of difficult problems has also been aided by the Sixth Sense in providing ideas and hunches.
I am interested in studying further Hill’s application of his nightly meeting of his ‘councilors’ in order to change and enhance his overall character. He obviously benefited greatly from this counseling and the psychology associated with it. Could this have been a Master Mind Group?
Hill suggests, that to fully understand the Sixth Sense the Chapter should be returned to at regular intervals and reread. I have found understanding this chapter easier during this study than on previous occasions.
Blessings.

Think & Grow Rich
Chapter14. The Sixth Sense (Review)
THE DOOR TO THE TEMPLE OF WISDOM
The Thirteenth Step toward Riches
The sixth sense can only be properly applied once
one has a mastery of the other twelve principles in
this book. This does not mean that you will not
have a flash of creativity received through the sixth
sense. But wouldn’t it be better to be dominated by
positive creativity and thought in managing our lives
and our businesses than the negative though that
can so easily dominate our day.
By mastering the other twelve principles you will be
able to hone the receptivity of the subconscious
mind by affirmation of positive orders to it rather
than allowing any random thought to enter,
particularly negative thoughts. A good start for
anyone is to participate in the 30-Day Mental
cleanse, where you begin to learn how to stop the
dominating negative thought process.
To understand why this idea is worth participation, do
an honest self evaluation. Picture a set of balance
scales. Now “honestly” weigh the volume of negative
thoughts entering your mind in a day compared to
positive thought. We must be HONEST and look at our
dominating feelings through the day. My guess is,
at best one feels neutral. It takes no power or effort
to have negative thought, but it does take our
strength and power. It requires our willingness and
perseverance to maintain positive thought. That is
why at Mentoring for Free it is suggested to do a
minimum of 200 positive self-talk affirmations a
day. If one uses the scale exercise from time to
time it will help us become more aware of what is
dominating our thoughts helping push that balance
to the “Positive”.
Hill says, "By mastering these principles we will
unleash our creative imagination where ideas,
plans and thoughts flash in, the “flashes”
sometimes called “Hunches” or “inspiration”.
Hill, “The sixth sense is not something that one can
turn off and put on at will. Ability to use this great
power comes slowly, through application of the
other principles outlined in this book. The starting
point of all achievement is DESIRE. The finishing
point is that brand of knowledge which leads to
understanding—understanding of self,
understanding of others, understanding of the laws
of Nature, recognition and understanding of
happiness. Hence the principle of the Sixth
Sense had to be included as a part of this
philosophy.”
Here is some more good news. Hill says, “No
matter who you are, or what may have been your
purpose in reading this book, you can profit by it
without understanding the principle described in
this chapter. The chapter on the sixth sense was
included, because the book is designed for the
purpose of presenting a complete philosophy.”
The point Hill made earlier in the chapter and again
toward the end does remain true though. “The
sixth sense can only be properly applied once one
has a mastery of the other twelve principles in this book.”
Hill suggests that one can use this chapter “The Sixth
Sense” as a gauge to measure their growth and
understanding of the other twelve principles by
reading this chapter at the end of each book cycle
in helping you see your growth.

The 6th sense
Oh, I am not alone with having some premonitions from time to time? That's good.
So far I already had thought something is wrong with me.
But when Hill says this phenomenon – he's calling it the 6th sense – will be understood when we are beyond the age of forty, I had some doubt.
Why?
Because I have the impression I lost it for a good while during my thirties. When I was at school I often had those moments when knowing very well it would be me who is picked next by the teacher or when something was not okay.
Today there is always my conscious mind on guard and stepping in, telling me that this is nonsense and just another ghost of fear. In the aftermath I quite often find out I should have listened to my inner voice and then I swore to do it the next time.
For instance I knew in a flash that I should withdraw my application for the new job when entering my car on the parking lot, looking towards the factory building that appeared to be quite hostile, even threatening in the dark. But my mind had plenty of good arguments why it would be a good move to take the job.
Of course it wasn't that at all and after one year I pulled out of it. Then those moments of warning came back to my mind again like the situation on the parking lot or later that strange, strong, and very certain feeling of NOT to take it, to better cancel the new contract signed and sent the day before.
Hey, my ego wanted all that what came along with that job! All those trappings flattered my ego like a shiny company car or the big office. Yes, yes, yes. - But it was wrong. - I was wrong!
Listen to your heart!
Why can't I do it?
Why don't I have the courage to do so?
As a green it was a giant step to talk about this with my wife who is more obedient to her feelings. And – how to say – whenever I followed her advice since – of course based on feelings alone – it turned out to have been the right move and I had known it by myself too.
There is hope, because I have spotted the problem and I am not longer ignoring it.
But it's still a long way to go.
In hope of your good company all the way ahead.

Chapter 13 The Sixth Sense
Of all of the chapter’s, this is the most intriguing. In order to accomplish this, yes you must master the other 12 principles. Simply put, I believe the acquired knowledge of the Sixth Sense is application. When you come into the knowledge of Infinte Intelligence (through the application of the 12 principles), the acknowledgement of the Sixth Sense as a Noun becomes more realistic.
Wisdom is simply Knowledge correctly APPLIED. We, have the ability to re-mold our “Core” Character Traits. Those are the very fiber of our Personality. That takes the 12 principles, faith, determination, persistence, definite of purpose, habitual changes just to name a few of them. However, as we tinker with this recipe for Change, which APPLIES the 12 principles, the habitual process itself invites Infinite Intelligence…and something (Noun) else comes along also.
I believe we all have contact with The Sixth Sense because we are “Spiritual” Beings, we BELIEVE in something “intangible”. The person attempting to lose weight has to apply the 12 principles to accomplish this goal consciously or subconsciously. The person studying to become a Doctor, has to apply the 12 principles, as well as the Carpenter, the Dancer, the Preacher, etc…there are no exceptions for results. The more precise (the focused of) your application of the 12 principles within your goal, the greater ability to be honored with “It’s” presence in some form. The reason I believe this to be true is because one must Believe and have faith in their results, the two major ingredients of the 12 principles as well as reaching Infinite Intelligence and The Sixth Sense.
One time a real estate project was about to make a wrong turn. I needed to reach the seller asap and they lived about 12 hours away. Their home and cell phone were disconnected and we needed signatures to finalize the project that day. I sat in my car and began to have a conversation with God (FAITH) and told Him that “my project” was no longer in my hands and I was “now” turning the project over to Him because I desperately need His assistance). Within ½ hour the seller called me “out of the blue”. This would be “Intangible” results.
The Book and Video “The Secret” is based on Faith; “putting it out there” in the universe and believing “Something” will send it to you. Now just what is that “Something”? I am not sure. What I am sure of is that “It” is an “intangible”.
