The Power of Positive Self Talk:
Today my “baby” goes to the city for surgery. Sure, he’s 12 years old, but he’s still my baby. His surgery is scheduled for 2:20pm Eastern time. He seems perfectly calm about it. If you could have heard him singing in the shower a couple of hours ago, you would never have believed he is facing something so big in the morning!!
He is amazed and awed at the fact that several hundred people are praying for him, many of whom are my online friends who don’t even know him!
He told me tonight that some of his school mates were telling him today of surgeries they’ve had.
“Isn’t it nice to know you aren’t alone?” I asked.
“Yeah, kinda,” he said. “But I know there are thousands of people out there having surgery every day.” He shrugged, as if it’s no big deal.
Positive self talk? You bet it is.
God is in control of every detail of our lives. He is sovereign. Nothing takes Him by surprise, and He makes it all turn out for the best for everyone involved. I KNOW from past experience that no matter what the outcome looks like to me at the time, it is all part of a bigger picture, and is for the best.
What is more natural than a mother worrying about all the things that could go wrong?
What is more powerful than a mother who focuses on everything that can go right?
What greater blessing for a little boy than a mother who verifies and strengthens his own positive view on what could be a very scary situation.
I’ve learned a lot from my young son in the past month!
